About the song "Cool": "Cool" is dedicated to Charlie Gillingham of Counting Crows. Aliah & Charlie were in a USO Rock Showband in 1985. They toured all the US Military bases in Japan - Playboy club in Tokyo then a week in Canada and then they spent 3 months in Alaska. It was very transformational for her, especially her music - they song wrote all the time - many together - always getting the better song out to show each other. He taught her what is cool and they spent a lot of time working out at Gold's Gym and singing 5 days a week at the club. He showed Aliah what she really wanted in a partner - a cosmic adventurer, a songwriting partner, & bandmate with a vision of healing the planet. She was reading the Rolling Stones when she found out he was on the cover with the Counting Crows. She had always known he had insights that would take him far. From the bridge of song "Cool": "You standing next to me... me standing next to him.. He's so good to me. Would have never seen him... if it weren't for you... you're so cool." She was "kicked out" of the cover band to go do her own music with their blessing. She joined rock band METRO that she fronted in San Francisco. Then, after the band was being pursued by Virgin... the band went for a male singer instead and then broke up. Aliah was inspired to do her one woman show..."Believe In Love" - which she took to LA. Than she met Paz who had just recorded his own album playing all the instruments. She fell in love with Paz and his groove and the cool parts she liked about Charley that she saw in him... his wisdom. She later met up with Charley while Counting Crows was touring... and he met Paz and she gave him a piece of the wall that came down in Berlin. He dug that. Later she saw him again and she gave him all her music - so far and the song "cool" among them.... Lilith Fair timing put her sound on the air. Yet she was most happy about the CD being played at many births - including the 4 hour home birth of the son that Paz and her share. She also included in the package... her book FOODCOOL & FOODCOOL KIT to help with keeping healthy on the road. It was on his birthday and that was why she made the effort to send blessings to her first mentor of 'cool". Charley said. " Nothing is simple... but real is cool!" |
