Coming Full Circle & Then Some...

by Aliah Selah

Returning to Amsterdam was quite magical in the context of all that was happening to help us to go, against all odds.  First of all, when I was invited to play at the A2A Music Festival we didn't have the money to go. However, it had been a very special spiritual quest to go there years ago and I took returning to Amsterdam as as a sign to prove my faith and willingness to do what Spirit wanted, whether I go or not. So on pure faith, and what I felt was Spirit's orders, I went ahead and told them I would be doing the showcase. As soon as we committed to go, the miracles started happening. While cleaning, I found some old TWA Frequent Flyer miles from 10 years ago that we never used, enough for 1 & 1/2 tickets. Then, while we were in New York the next week, I put my alto up for sale in a woodwind specialty shop and my prayers became focused with the mantra: "If it is your will- Alto to Amsterdam". When we got home, I found out that TWA doesn't go to Amsterdam and the extra travel costs would not make it worth it. However, within the month, TWA was bought out by American Airlines and they did go to Amsterdam. The timing was amazing the way it all came together for us each step of the way. All this was proving my faith, being in release about going, and praying only to serve by doing Spirit's will, either way.

ALTO TO AMSTERDAM

The biggest conformation came when my Mark VI Alto Sax (I enjoy playing Tenor so much more now) sold on the very day we had to pay for the tickets- selling in that New York shop within a week after the September 11th tragedy. Then, there was the challenge of just going on a plane anywhere, (especially with my son) only 3 weeks after September 11th had happened.  I had written 2 new songs about the life changing experience that our country was sharing and I felt compelled to take the journey so I could share them with folks in Europe. My intuition told me we would be safe and I had to trust that as part of the vision quest.

The final sign that we should really go was that nearing our departure date, I lost my voice, so I felt I had to canceled the trip & I did- why go if I can't sing?   Then, a healer friend and percussionist I was playing with (Harvey Trahan) came to our house and gave me two healings, two days in a row & I felt my voice returning. So I called the airlines and the next miracle was when the airlines let me change our tickets- with no added costs and the festival gave me back my slot.

We got there a day before the gig.  The next day, the day of the gig, I was told by a woman who did PR for the festival to go to a New Age bookstore, to put up my poster about my showcase at the De Brokke Theater (which turned out to be this amazing huge theater by the way) & to ask them sell my CD's there.  I casually asked the person who worked there if they knew "Rebecca (I didn't even have her last name) who was a healer who had been my friend years ago there... I remember she had done dances to each of the Bach Flower Remedies-" (that was all I remembered that would have her stand out).  Then, the guy handed me her phone #, (apparently she had worked there at one point) and I got a hold of her in time for her to go to the gig that night.  This made the whole trip so meaningful to me.  Reconnecting with my friend that had helped me so much while I was in Amsterdam the first time... years ago. Other than being a spiritual guide on the path, she also helped me by letting me stay in her friend's house boat back then, while I prepared for my concert at the Kosmos where slide backgrounds were also incorporated into the show.  I was inspired by Peace Pilgrim, (who traveled by foot 7x's across the US in the name of peace) to begin traveling as "A Dancer For Peace"
. (From Tempe, Arizona - to Israel then France, & then Amsterdam). At the Kosmos in Amsterdam the concert was on the same bill as Timothy Leary's Evolution Tour - and as I traveled the tour became more and more of a spiritual quest that I followed totally by intuition and guidance and was lead to meet so many amazing people everywhere I went.

Rifka when we first met photoo
Rifka is an artist, activist, dancer, & healthy energetic healer
who choreographed and danced a show of the Bach Flower Remedies.
She gave me this when we first met - it had leaves pasted on it then.

Rifka did amazing healings on both Paz & I - it was so good to see her
. All this, just to reconnect with Rebecca... who now also has taken her hebrew name of Rifka just as Paz and I had taken ours.  To have her see how much I'd grown spiritually & musically, since my first visit was a real confirmation for me of my growth.  She was radiant as I remembered her and was doing art in many forms... painting and making a poetic performance art CD. Through her eyes I could see that my music has come so far... I was able to share my first CD (Acoustic Perfume) and second one (Shades of Images). And through the concert, I was able to share many of the songs that are to be on upcoming CD's - songs I've written in the inspiration of what I call "Spiritual Activism". I also shared more of my intimate songs in a private concert for her of some of the songs to be on my CD Being Bare about doing the deep spiritual growth of "getting real" and being who we is. I have people like Rifka who helped me to believe in myself early on to thank for where I am now. I seek to be a similar force to as many folks as I can... to help them encourage their art through our new TV/Web Show CREATIVE EVOLUTION that is now in pre-production in Santa Cruz where we now live. As part of that TV show we are doing a segment that will build up to an Artistic Documentary called cocreating.us that will open with music video of unusual performance art piece sung and spokenword Ambient downtempto channeled song... birthed from a jam and all in one takes. "What Is So? & Dig Deep will also be included. (hear these songs & tell us what you see.)

Blessing, blessings, blessings... all in the name of peace.
Ho

peace,

Aliah Selah

This years first A2A Music Festival was scheduled to happen,
just weeks after the September 11th tragedy.  Soon after it occurred, it was then dedicated to victims & their families.   Singer/songwriter & spiritual activist, Aliah Selah  performed Friday Night, at De Brokke Grond Theater, (on the 17th of October, 21:00) as part of the A2A Music Festival Showcases.  Messages of peace are needed now more than ever &
Aliah returned to Amsterdam, with 2 new songs...

written since this life changing events.

In this live performance, Aliah began mysteriously… chiming Tibetan bells. Then, she began playing, her keyboard as she spoke about the first song "Bless the Water." This song was magically born a week before Tibetan Monks came to bless Barton Springs... a development endangered spring in Austin, Texas, where she lives.  Interestingly enough, she wrote it not knowing they were coming.   She still continues to ring these bells as a reminder of the monk's blessing.

"WE HERE NOW" - a song that was inspired by 9/11
and performed in Amsterdam at A2A Music Festival weeks later.

After "Generation X" had a pretty honest reaction to the manipulations of force in the marketing media of big business.
They brilliantly showed all of the marketing industry that they were too apathetic to really care.
This means that you could not tell them what to buy,
what to like, or that buying anything would get them what they wanted.

Because they justy didn't care - and the manipulation of marketing had to start being honest about their role.
That was when ads became funnier that made us laugh
And out came clever ads that did not just tell us what we wanted... and may not even mention much about the product.

Then came ads that showed they were doing good in the world in some way.
Having the internet available now for lots of information about the product - if it is wanted...
all of marketing has become more focused on service.

WE HERE NOW
The "Now Generation" or genteration Y... who wants to know why... why buy from that company - are they making the world better?
AND everyone is invited to this party - everyone is included as an important voice and the internet makes that happen.
THE NOW GENERATION SEES THAT WE ARE ALL CONNECTED NOW.

We understand that where we put our money is our vote. We are folks who come in all ages, cultures, and walks of life.
We care about people - and are NOT interested in stories about why...this or that can't work or the fear of conspericy.
We see things have been profit over people for centeruries and there are enlightened periods and we are part of that time now.

We are interested in doing an atlerantive way of life.... where health and welfare of the weakest among us is important to everyone.
Knowing that this is where strength of good feelings come from... not from profit over people policies that harm people - ever.

We know we are helping things to shift by not giving our attention or our money the companies who put profit over people.
We see that with a positive vision of a world - is a world that is sustainable and knows we are caretakers of our world.
And we are making the alternative the norm because it is better for everyone to care... it makes us healthy to care - endorphins are released
and we are learning to care in an interdependent way that allows people the way to find their calling, listen to their body, follow their heart, and yearn to make an offering to this world as a their unique gift is developed with interdependent support.

We understand that it is both hip and sexy to care... and much better karma too!

We watch THE DAILY SHOW and see the reasons why past generations were not able to live up to humane standards -
this inspires us to keep our eyes focused on the NOW.
THEY ARE THE NOW GENERATION. And yes... with the internet and technology... they do want it now.
Yet that is because we are in more alignement with intuition and synchrnocity have much more potential to respond with.
Connecting to people all over the world - the world grows smaller... more in understanding of just how connected we all are.

We are not interested in the fight...we see that peace can never come from a fight.
Who did what to whom... or any aspect of the us vs. them - is a drain on the precious energy of love and joy that invigorate us.

We are over it... so we don't focus on it. We are peaceful and looking to make the world that way.
We are here & now and interested in what can be done to make things better now.
We are solutionsaries of the new world that is co-creating peace
Standing up for peace like Ghandi - making alternative communities... that are profitable so that they can help people's lives.

THE TRANSFORMATION THAT IS HAPPENING NOW.

The standing up for peace that was first understood as needed in the 60's - were revolutionary times.
Bless them for being the front line... NOW they are grandparents and cool senior citizens.

Now, it's more of a celebration of all of our growth inside & out -

that's evolving our planet, together!

The advertising stagety that works for this crowd is what good is this company doing for the community -
in the product itself good for the environment and what contributions to the world? -
Are they make things better with the profits they make?

Commericals of how much they are giving a good cause - it what will attact people to products NOW.

Aliah first publically used the phrase the "Now Generation"
on News8Austin during the coverage of her
We Here Now Holiday Peace Bazaar
.

"The Holy City" & "We here Now" 2 songs that were inspired by the September 11th Tragedy
At the A2A Showcase performed at the wonderful De Brokke Theater.

"The Holy City"
(inspired & co-written lyrically from a poem that was written during
the
"Dancer For Peace" Tour by Jake Gooze in Jerusalem)

& "We Here Now".
(Inspired by Ram Dass's book "Be Here Now" and the fact that demanding enlightenment
makes for a harsh command-
(that contradicts itself).
Now, it's more of a celebration of all of our growth inside & out-
that's evolving our planet, together!)

"We Here Now" ended uniquely with a channeled chant,
ending the concert:

"Pray to the light, of the peace, of the one;
that we all know what we've begun;
we will bring the peace we seek,
as we caress the ones who are weak;
we will understand the gentle ways,

when we see, who we were in former days,
is not who we are.... right... now."

(passing over the lit candle with a prayer staff made of feathers & stones.
The candle light goes out... after the word... now.)
