Aliah Selah has been very active with this cause through
coverage of it
on her TV shows: Trippin' In Austin & P.E.A.C.E.
and through her song "Bless The Water" that came to her a week before
Tibetan monks came to bless Barton Springs (without knowing that they were
coming.)
She video taped them doing the blessing and one of their sand paintings for
the video for the song that played on her shows and
the Austin Music Network.
Years later, after hundreds had spoken in City Hall about deciding what to
do about a big money developers, who's construction was threatening the wildlife
and stability of safe waters dramatically in Austin's most vital watershed-
among hundreds of concerned citizens, she rang the Tibetan bells to remind
everyone that the Monks had blessed our waters and that it meant something.
She encouraged the citizens of Austin to stop lashing out at our City Council,
to stop going on & on with complaints and frustration and instead,
to join with City Council in opposing the developers
who threatened our wildlife and water's safety.
2 people after Aliah spoke, ones who also agreed not to fight,
blame or vent frustrations at the City Counsel
who was showing us that they were behind us,
and to instead show them that this is not only what we wanted,
that we were willing to do what ever it takes to oppose the developer and
Save Our Spring!
It was voted on by City Council and passed!
Gratitude to this, and many other accomplishments
of the many hard workers involved with SOS-
was what this celebration was all about!
Aliah was honored to be asked to be a part of it.
Efforts to Save Our Spring are continuing still...
