Her love of piano, poetry & the inspiration of peace in the late 60's music
lead her to begin songwriting at 9.
This is when she quit piano lessons to secretly wrtie her own songs until she shared them with her High School Choir director.
He was impressed by the depth of her poetry and inspired her to keep all her lyrical ideas in a shoe box - like it says in the song "Shades Of Images" -
who's chorus was in that shoe box for years. He encouraged her to keep singing and writing her songs - something she loved to share.
Aliah has been taking dance classes all her life... and she was known as a dancer at her High School, who choreographed to YES, Pink Floyd, and ELO.
But
then, she decided that she wanted to write the music she danced to -
so for her senior year she dropped dance at her high school to instead take music theory, voice, at the college.
(Also, a Yoga Classes that totally transformed her dance and she won 2nd place in the talent show with a solo dance peiece.
She is a Yoga & Qi Gong Instructor who has developed Yogadance Qi Flow - Authentic Creative Movment - that she is choreographing to her songs.
Her other forms include: Lotus Heart Qi Gong, Moon Cycle Qi Gong, all in the Yoga Qi Flow of ergonomic movement.)
Soon after she
began playing her songs at the LunchTime Concerts
the DJ who hosted called her... "the next Joni Mitchell".
Then, she was given a rarely given out singer/songwriter vocal scholarship from
Berklee School of Music in Boston, MA...
and recieved 2 Singer/Songwriter awards - from both the teachers &
student songwriters.
Aliah's love of the piano is limitless...
they called her songs Post Modern at Berklee
the way the jazz chordal modes fit with her natural vocal choices.
She is ever grateful to the joy of exploring this ongoing sojourn - expressing colors of sound.
