*ALIAH SELAH - then ALISE CLAR - Central High (Phx, Arizona) Yearbook Photo

When this picture came out in her Junior year of High School - everyone saw Aliah in a different light.
The artsy student who with her partner Lori danced.. to several songs off Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon, a lot of YES songs,
and Frank Zappa's "I'm The Slime" where the two of them broke out of a huge box with white tissue paper with green goo on white costume...
She was an entertainer from as long as she could remember - in musicals and dance recitals since age 4... but after years of being told where to stand, what to say or sing.. and do...
in dance class they let the student choreograph their own dances. Suddenly she was able to show what was inside her.
After showing the piece to the class of her Pink Floyd's "Time" on Dark Side Of The Moon... the teachers said how unique it was... that it could be seen from every direction... it was like a sculpture.
Then, the lead dancer asked her to do a solo in one of her pieces that was also in a show outside of school.
This picture was taken because she was put in the center of all the dancers in the group photo - a shift that happened as she was given a junior solo from the Head Dancer and the dance teachers encouraged her choreography.
When this photo was taken... it was because the photographer asked if anyone wanted to do anything else... everyone expected her to do her leaps she was known for... so she did it.
It took about 3 minutes... and without all the love and encouragement from the Dance Department she would have never done it.
She was not looking for the spot light... and yet it found her.
Somehow this photographer had captured her spark and because of it she was mentioned in
Who's Who of High School Students and many other doors opened up for her.
Aliah... was suddenly a lot more interesting after her junior yearbook came out - than she had ever been all the years of high school before.
She had made it into the highest level of dance at her school... Performance Dance for her senior year - that came after beginning, intermediate, and advanced dance.
Funny, that it lead her to quit dance at her high school all together...
to take music classes at Phoenix College...
and everyone she knew thought she was ruining her wonderful dance future by doing music too.

Aliah had a vision of dancing to her own music - so she was very focused on that vision... she wanted to do multi-media shows...
and it was not so farfetched... she was not starting from the beginning.
Aliah had started piano lessons at 7 and played piano till she was 9 yet she continued to write her own songs - secretly.
And she had been writing songs for years - she just did not show them to anyone.
She kept them secret in a shoe box under her bed as referred to in the title track "Shades Of Images".
And knew she would still dance all her life - and life was not just about High School.

Fortunately, she took a yoga class at Phoenix College instead -
the youngest in the class (16) as a senior in High School and it changed her life forever.
Yoga strengthened her body and took her connection to dance even deeper.
She was already vegetarian since age 13 and she felt the sacred connection to her body in yoga that transferred to her dance that she took to a whole new level.

The following year at Phoenix College's Annual Talent Show
Aliah's solo dance to ELO's "Just Take A Pebble"... and won 2nd place.

She was playing in the Jazz band with her sax and playing her own songs on piano at the Lunch Concert Series at Phoenix College.
Her plan that was to "ruin her life" in many people's eyes before - was just the life she wanted and she had worked for and attained.

This taught her to go for it and that there will always be those who think you should not do "it" (whatever your dream is and the path you feel will take you there)...
yet in the end you must live with what you choose... it feels better to at least make your own mistakes - and to honor them as in her Shades Of Images CD.
This is what allows us to grow from each and every beautiful mistake... all the no's that lead us to yes.
Aliah learned at that point in her life and ever since that rather than doing what others say - and then not having it work out
and always regretting you never tried what was in your heart - Aliah found out repeatedly... that t is best to follow your bliss and invite others to come along - if it also feeds their soul.
If they want to colloborate... or just mutually appreciate each other - this is what we are here for... to connect through expressive arts.

When you do, your rewards are really yours - you have earned them every step of the way.
This is where real self esteem comes from.
We can only give this to ourselves and when we know that it does not matter what happens because no matter what -
no one can take "it" from you either.
This is what we take with us when we go - to have walked the edge of the waters... this is what life is really all about -
facing our fears and following our bliss - so follow visions and allow them to empower you!

Currently Aliah is choreographing several songs off her Shades Of Images CD and combining
Tai Chi, Qigong, Yoga Mudras, and Sign Language in the movements for some artistic music videos.
This is a vision she has had for many years and now it is all coming together with a Choreography class at Cabrillo College -
that again is giving space to her visions for dances for her music for music videos - her original vision.

She is doing her vision and sees even more that it is so important that we let students find their calling... and have time to develop it.

*ALIAH SELAH was born ALISE CLAR - she took her Hebrew name while she was doing her Dancer For Peace Tour in Israel her first stop - then going on to France & Amsterdam.
Then, years later while she was pregnant and studying Tibetan Reiki where the first vowel was AH - that felt a lot better to her than the tightness of her birth name. So she took the name Aliah legally
and for her music she added Selah - which in French means "as it is" as in Selah Vi - in Hebrew it has a much deeper meaning... it means going up to God... as one makes an "Aliah" when they come to read from the Torah.
It is used at the end of poems in Psalms - as an Amen - and later she found from a Biblical Historian that is was
when King David would strike up the band. Aliah really liked that and it seemed to make sense. ALIAH SELAH means "moving onward to a grounded awe."
A work in progress which was better than ALISE CLAR which in German means "all is clear" - a lot to live up to... while ALIAH SELAH had a work in progress type vibe that sat better with her soul.
While pregnant she studied Feng Shui for the nesting instinct, and Belly Dancing for the labor and 3 styles of Reiki up to Master level... to raise up to her son's energetic level.. she believes.
In Tibetan Reiki she realized that her birth name was very tight sonically and yet her hebrew name was all about AH... which felt like letting go... and relaxing.
Paz her Soulmate/Bandmate/Husband also took his Hebrew name legally - when they were pregnant with their son.
There were many miracles that happened during this pregnancy... yet the most amazing one was how a woman
under Aliah's care as a Wellness Consultant healed of ovarian cancer in only 3 weeks.
Ah....
